Chemistry in the Earth System · Week 18 · Atoms, Elements, and Molecules
Semester Reflection: Elements of Me
Students build a personal element card showing their growth, bonds, and goals for the spring semester.
- Students will
- Students use the periodic table to predict how sodium and chlorine bond from their valence electrons, then use the structure of an element card, with symbol, atomic number, group, and valence electrons, to communicate their growth, bonds, and goals.
- SEL skill
- Name how you felt at key points in the semester and set a goal
- What it looks like
- Students recognize emotions by naming how they felt at key points in the semester.
- Content focus
- Semester Reflection: Elements of Me
- Format

More self-awareness activities for Chemistry in the Earth System
- My Chemistry Story Self-awarenessStudents list the chemistry they already see in kitchens, fields, and cars and name the strengths they bring as scientists.
- Energy in Bonds Self-awarenessModeling the energy released and absorbed when bonds form and break, and noticing what drains or fuels students' own energy.
- Inside Earth's Engine Self-awarenessModeling convection in Earth's mantle and noticing what drives students' own inner motion.
- The Periodic Table as a Map Self-awarenessUsing the periodic table to predict properties and mapping personal patterns that predict good and hard days.
