The five skills at homeLas cinco habilidades en casa
Each week, your teen's teachers may use a short RoseThread Connect activity that practices one of these skills inside their regular class. You can practice the same skill at home with one good question, at dinner, in the car, or before bed.

Many schools use PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports): a few clear expectations, taught and noticed every day. The same idea works at home with teenagers. Clear expectations, predictable responses, and earned privileges, not power struggles and not surprises.
Build the expectations togetherCreen juntos las expectativas
Sit down with your teen and agree on five to seven expectations. When teens help build the list, they own it. For example:
- Up on time and ready for school
- Homework done, no missing assignments
- Respectful communication
- One or two chores
Tip: use your school's words. If your school says Be Respectful, Be Responsible, Be Safe, use those words at home too.
Consejo: usen las palabras de la escuela. Si la escuela dice Sé respetuoso, Sé responsable, Sé seguro, usen esas mismas palabras en casa.
A simple daily checklistUna lista diaria sencilla
Post the list where you both see it. Each day, give each item points: 2 if your teen did it on their own, 1 if it took one reminder, 0 if not yet. At the end of the week, add the points. If you reach your goal, the weekly privilege is earned. Start the goal near 60 percent of the possible points and raise it as the habit grows. Simple and visual beats long and complicated.
Calm, predictable responsesRespuestas tranquilas y predecibles
- 1. Reminder. No lecture, no tone. Just information.
- 2. Redirect. "Let's do it together."
- 3. Mark it as not met. It gets a 0 for today. No argument, no yelling.
- 4. Loss of a privilege. Predictable, not emotional. For example, the phone is put away for the evening.
- 1. Recordatorio. Sin sermón, sin tono. Solo información.
- 2. Redirigir. "Hagámoslo juntos."
- 3. Marcar como no cumplido. Hoy recibe un 0. Sin discutir, sin gritar.
- 4. Pérdida de un privilegio. Predecible, no emocional.
Notice and reward the goodReconozcan y premien lo bueno
This often matters more than punishment. Choose what motivates your teen:
Esto importa más que el castigo. Elijan lo que motiva a su adolescente:
- Option A: a small allowance for each successful school day
- Option B: privileges, like extra weekend phone time, rides approved, choosing a family activity, or a later bedtime on Friday
School support, led by your teenApoyo escolar dirigido por su adolescente
A's and B's mean independence. A C means a check in. When a grade drops to a C, your teen takes the first steps: emailing the teacher and asking for missing work or tutoring.
A y B significan independencia.
You are the coach, not the fixer: "I'll support you, but this is your responsibility."Usted es el entrenador, no quien lo arregla todo: "Te voy a apoyar, pero esto es tu responsabilidad."
The calm words to useLas palabras tranquilas que puede usar
When your teen argues:
Cuando su adolescente discute:
"I'm not mad. This isn't a punishment. This is the outcome we agreed to.""No estoy enojado(a). Esto no es un castigo. Es lo que acordamos."
Then stop talking. Calm, consistent responses tend to work better than an emotional reaction.

Fill it in together, post it on the fridge, and score each day: 2, 1, or 0. Add the points at the end of the week to see if the privilege is earned.
